The first addictions I developed as a child were to sugar, wheat, cheese, and the industrial snacks or 'comfort' foods that we turn to when we're feeling empty.
As a young teenager, I also became addicted to caffeine through drinking flavoured black tea. This helped me feel more awake when I was forced to get up earlier than a child naturally would.
My addictions to coffee and alcohol came later.

For most of my adult life, I wouldn't leave the house without a coffee because I felt foggy and couldn't focus. However, it was only when I became more sensitive that I realised the coffee made me feel as if my blood was boiling inside, probably due to a sharp rise in my blood sugar levels. I also experienced frequent energy crashes, illnesses and declining stamina.
I was only able to quit caffeine by gradually reducing my daily dose with a transition to green tea and then Pu-erh tea.

When I finally got clean, I learned that coffee and tea plants produce caffeine as a neurotoxic poison to kill or repel insects that would otherwise eat their leaves.
What is deadly to small animals triggers a feeling of anxious alertness in our nervous system. Our body does not gain energy from caffeine, but reacts to the fear-based alarm state stimulated by caffeine.
Over time, we can become so dependent on this state that natural clarity and focus feel out of reach without it.

From childhood onwards, birthdays and holidays were sugar overdose rituals. With cakes and sweets everywhere, celebration was linked to a blood sugar rush. This wired our brains and taught us to seek joy in sugar highs.
Wheat-based breads and pastries, as well as cleverly designed 'comfort' foods, can temporarily fill the void left by loneliness, boredom, stress, a lack of physical contact or disconnection from our heart.
With such easy access to these products, we learned how to numb unpleasant emotions whenever we wanted to. Supermarket drugs became emotional crutches, blocking our natural heart energies.

As adults, we may find it difficult to resist the temptations of Christmas sweets and festive treats in supermarkets. The appeal of special treats triggers old patterns, pulling us back despite our best efforts.
It's not just the taste; it's also nostalgia, ritual and emotional comfort, mistaken for happiness. These allurements make the thorns of craving cling tighter to our physical and astral bodies.
It is fascinating how we have confused Christmas with the old Roman festival of Saturnalia, which was all about gluttony and excessive indulgence. This contradicts the very thing that Jesus wanted to show us: that we can find deep inner bliss through moderation and fasting.

When trying to give up deeply ingrained eating habits, sheer willpower often fails because food addictions are often rooted in unmet emotional needs.
LOVE, safety and joy have been fed by industrially isolated substances.
If our needs are not fulfilled, the gut bacteria that thrive on these substances will always scream for more, intensifying our emotional voids.

Food freedom begins with gradually changing our eating habits until no craving dictates what we eat.
One way of achieving this is through periods of fasting. It enables us to replace the dominant bacteria in our gut. It also connects us with the hidden parts of ourselves, giving us the chance to rewire the connections between our gut, emotions and brain.

When the body is not constantly digesting, it can focus more on repair. Inflammatory processes may calm down, joints can feel less swollen, and old tensions in muscles and connective tissues can gradually soften.
The body can begin to detoxify itself of stored acids, residues from processed foods and stimulants, and even heavy metals. This process is accelerated when fasting is combined with movement, sweating and deep rest.

Honest communication becomes easier. Our creativity can flourish. Fasting can clear mental fog and raises our astral frequencies.

Why not try fasting for just 24 hours, from sunset to sunset? During this time, you should only drink water, herbal teas or lemon or vinegar water, which is alkalising and cleansing for the body. Notice your hunger and let it pass, just like an emotional wave.
Observe any emotions, cravings or longings that arise. Journaling can help you find clarity, and going for a walk in nature will keep you active and your energies flowing.

Fasting becomes much easier if you reduce your intake of unhealthy, heavy foods first. It's best to avoid caffeine, sugar, white wheat, alcohol, meat and fried foods for a few days beforehand.
You can also try gradually reducing your food intake over the three days before your longer fasting period.
You could have a green smoothie for breakfast, fruit as snacks throughout the day and raw vegetables in the evening.
Again, observe your emotions, cravings and longings, and keep yourself active.

A well-made green smoothie can easily contain more than ten ingredients. Your body will thank you for giving it the option to choose what it needs to thrive.
Try using two or three types of fruit, including a banana to achieve the right consistency. You can add different types of salad leaves, carrots, fennel, celery, coriander and other herbs, ginger, turmeric, some seeds and nuts, coconut flakes, cacao powder and cinnamon.
It's a good habit to have a green smoothie every morning as breakfast because it can literally improve your consciousness and your life.

Fasting periods can rebalance the gut flora. As bacteria that thrive on sugar and processed food lose their main fuel, more peaceful and supportive colonies can flourish. This often reduces cravings, stabilises digestion and creates a lighter, more balanced feeling throughout the body.
We may experience clearer skin, better sleep, stronger immunity and reduced pain. Paradoxically, fasting can eventually give us more energy as we learn to feed on astral nourishment.

Longer fasting is a different experience each time. One time it may be challenging; another time blissful.
Waves of hunger are the most common experience, but they often pass when you observe them and focus on your emotions or something else instead. You may see images of the food you are craving at that moment.

As your body starts to release and heal itself, you may experience physical detox symptoms. These could include bone or muscle pain, headaches or general fatigue.

When you stop using food as a coping mechanism, you may find yourself processing a wide range of emotions. Old, unprocessed childhood wounds, grief, anger or other repressed feelings may resurface.
As these hidden emotions suddenly become visible, you may feel vulnerable and experience a deep longing for what has been missing in your life.
These emotional waves are invitations to finally feel and heal what food has been numbing down. The intensity of your longing has the power to open up your heart in ways you would never have thought possible.

- Place one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. Breathe into the feeling with your heart.

- Forgiveness rituals for yourself and others; feel it with your whole being.
- Crying, shaking, dancing, walking, humming and making sounds to let the energies move!

A breatharian initiation is a carefully held process of usually around nine days. The food can be reduced gently over the first days, so that your body and nervous system never feel suddenly 'starved'.
